Supported AI Providers

ProductManager supports three AI providers:

  • Google Gemini - Fast and cost-effective
  • Anthropic Claude - Excellent for nuanced, brand-aligned content
  • OpenAI (ChatGPT) - Versatile and widely used

You can configure multiple providers and switch between them.

Step 1: Configure Your AI Provider

  1. Go to Settings (gear icon in toolbar)
  2. Select the AI tab
  3. Choose your preferred AI provider
  4. Enter your API key from the provider's dashboard
  5. Select a model (e.g., GPT-4, Claude 3, Gemini Pro)
  6. Click Test Connection to verify
  7. Click Save
Getting an API Key: Each provider has their own signup process. Google Gemini offers a free tier. OpenAI and Anthropic require a paid account with credits.

Step 2: Create Prompt Templates

Prompt templates define how AI generates your descriptions. You can use placeholders that get replaced with product data:

  • {title} - Product title
  • {vendor} - Product vendor/brand
  • {type} - Product type
  • {tags} - Product tags
  • {price} - Product price
  • {description} - Current description

Example Prompt Template

Write a compelling product description for:
Product: {title}
Brand: {vendor}
Category: {type}
Price: {price}

Requirements:
- 2-3 short paragraphs
- Highlight key benefits
- Use a friendly, professional tone
- Include a call to action

Step 3: Generate for Single Product

  1. Double-click a product to open the Description Editor
  2. Click the AI button in the toolbar
  3. Select your prompt template (or write a custom prompt)
  4. Click Generate
  5. Review and edit the result
  6. Click Save

Step 4: Bulk AI Generation

For generating descriptions across many products:

  1. Select the products you want to update
  2. Click Bulk Edit → AI Descriptions
  3. Choose your prompt template
  4. Adjust creativity (temperature) setting
  5. Click Generate All
  6. Review each generated description
  7. Accept, regenerate, or edit individual results
  8. Click Apply to save all accepted descriptions
Creativity Setting: Lower values (0.3-0.5) produce more consistent, predictable output. Higher values (0.7-0.9) are more creative but may need more editing.

Best Practices

  • Start with a few products to test your prompt
  • Include brand voice guidelines in your prompt
  • Always review AI-generated content before publishing
  • Save successful prompts as templates for reuse
  • Use lower creativity for technical products, higher for lifestyle products

Cost Considerations

AI providers charge per token (roughly per word). Costs vary by provider and model:

  • Google Gemini Pro: Most cost-effective
  • OpenAI GPT-4: Premium quality, higher cost
  • Anthropic Claude: Balanced cost and quality

For large catalogs, start with a smaller model and upgrade if needed.
