Media Editor

The Media Editor allows you to manage all media for a product, including images, Shopify-hosted videos, and external videos from YouTube or Vimeo.

Opening the Media Editor

  1. Select a product in the grid
  2. Open using one of these methods:
    • Click the Images cell to open directly
    • Click Edit Media in the toolbar
    • Right-click and select Edit Media

Media Types

ProductManager supports three types of media:

Type Source Features
Images Local files or URLs Thumbnails, alt text, reorder
Videos Shopify-hosted Upload MP4, preview, alt text
External Videos YouTube, Vimeo Embed by URL, thumbnail preview

Interface Overview

The Media Editor shows:

  • Media list - Thumbnails of all product media
  • Preview panel - Larger view of selected media
  • Properties panel - Alt text, filename, dimensions
  • Toolbar - Add, remove, reorder actions

Adding Images

From Local Files

  1. Click Add Images
  2. Select one or more image files
  3. Images are staged for upload
  4. Click Save to upload to Shopify

Supported formats: JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP

From URL

  1. Click Add from URL
  2. Enter the image URL
  3. Image is downloaded and staged
  4. Click Save to upload

Drag and Drop

Simply drag image files from Windows Explorer onto the media list.

Adding Videos

Shopify-Hosted Videos

  1. Click Add Video
  2. Select an MP4 video file
  3. Video uploads with progress indicator
  4. Processing may take a few minutes

Supported: MP4 (H.264), up to 1GB, max 10 minutes

External Videos (YouTube/Vimeo)

  1. Click Add External Video
  2. Paste the video URL:
    • YouTube: https://youtube.com/watch?v=...
    • Vimeo: https://vimeo.com/...
  3. Thumbnail is fetched automatically
  4. Click Add

Editing Media

Alt Text

Alt text improves accessibility and SEO:

  1. Select a media item
  2. Enter alt text in the properties panel
  3. Describe what the image shows
  4. Changes save when you click Save

Tips for good alt text:

  • Be descriptive: "Red leather handbag with gold clasp"
  • Include relevant keywords naturally
  • Keep under 125 characters
  • Don't start with "Image of" or "Photo of"

Reordering Media

Change the display order:

  1. Drag and drop - Drag thumbnails to new positions
  2. Arrow buttons - Use Move Up/Move Down buttons
  3. First item becomes the featured image

Deleting Media

  1. Select the media item(s)
  2. Click Delete or press Delete key
  3. Confirm when prompted

Warning: Deleted media cannot be recovered from Shopify.

Video Preview

Preview videos directly in the editor:

  1. Select a video
  2. Click Play or double-click
  3. Video opens in a popup player

For external videos, the player uses an embedded web view.

Bulk Operations

Select Multiple

  • Ctrl+Click - Add to selection
  • Shift+Click - Select range
  • Ctrl+A - Select all

Bulk Delete

  1. Select multiple items
  2. Click Delete
  3. All selected items are removed

Bulk Alt Text

  1. Select multiple images
  2. Click Set Alt Text
  3. Enter template (use {title} for product title)
  4. Applied to all selected

Upload Progress

When saving with new media:

  • Progress bar shows upload status
  • Large videos may take several minutes
  • You can cancel uploads in progress
  • Failed uploads show error messages

Image Requirements

For best results on Shopify:

Size 2048 x 2048 pixels
Aspect ratio Square (1:1) preferred
File size Under 20MB
Format JPG for photos, PNG for graphics
Background White or transparent

Video Requirements

Attribute Requirement
Format MP4 (H.264 codec)
Resolution Up to 4K (3840x2160)
Duration Up to 10 minutes
File size Up to 1GB
Audio AAC codec recommended

Troubleshooting

"Image upload failed"

  • Check file size (max 20MB)
  • Verify format is supported
  • Ensure stable internet connection
  • Try a smaller/different image

"Video still processing"

Shopify processes videos asynchronously:

  • Large videos may take 5-10 minutes
  • Refresh the editor to check status
  • "Processing" status is normal

"External video not loading"

  • Verify the URL is correct and public
  • YouTube videos must not be private
  • Vimeo videos must allow embedding
  • Check your internet connection

"Can't reorder media"

  • Save any pending changes first
  • Ensure you're dragging to a valid position
  • Try using the arrow buttons instead
